Blue Skies over Hyde Park
Unbelievably nearly 30 years since his last big concert appearance Jeff Lynne appeared on stage fronting The Electric Light Orchestra in Hyde Park to bring Radio 2’s summer concerts to a close.
It was as if there had been a time warp, he looked exactly the same with bubbled frizzy hair, dark sunglasses and laconic singing style – it was a Back to the Future sequel!
He ran thru all the well know numbers and a few other rock and roll favourites, but of course Mr Blue Sky bought the house down.
Chereene the violinist was in stunning form and attire and Richard Tandy kept as always the keyboards in regiment. I was pleased to hear Livin Thing and Turn to Stone rolled out, my father absolutely loved the former.
The day started with Chrissie Hynde and swept on with Bellowhead, Gregory Porter, Texan born Kacey Musgraves, Paloma Faith and a great set from Billy Ocean with Blondie the penultimate act before the Orchestra swept all before it and the space ship shimmered into view – it was a fitting return.
