Wearing Feelings on our Faces While our Faces took a Rest….

What an absolute peach of a concert.

Steve Hackett and his accomplished musicians were just stunning – there were no cobwebs here, the years spun back – the 1970’s reborn with renditions of a glorious back catalogue – for me, many never heard live before.

Favourites – like the Fountain of Salmacis, with a shimmering start crescendo, reminiscent of Here is Now by the Smiths,  the evocative Dancing with the Moonlit Knight and the resolute Giant Hogweed and still more, the amazing Suppers Ready in it’s entirety with all those wonderful changes, lyrics to crave and die for all served up in a beautifully soup where all the ingredients could be savoured – brass ( sax & flute dominated) holding its own with keyboards, guitars (double headed as well) and vocal – a stupendous feat. Even the light show was a joy, every song choreographed- although, the piece de resistance was the encore, Watcher of the Skies.

I was returned to the….. 1980’s when I Q overnight with my sister and lots of others on the streets of Ipswich to see Genesis for the first time at the Gaumont on the Duke tour, and boy was it worth it especially as Los Endos was the drum duet finale. This concert matched that night and I could finally hear for myself just how marvellous Hackett’s lead guitar playing really is !
