Looking for something a liitle different then check out the overlooked Zinfandel grape.
Best expressions come from its home in the USA, especially in California in the form of full flavoured reds, an ideal accompaniment for meat and game.
Foremost examples have with a spicy nose with balanced but pronounced dark fruit flavours – lashings of cassis and plum.

Scotto Wines are a good example – the family business was started by Dominic who emigrated from the bay of Naples in 1903. Today, his wine making skills have been passed onto his great grandson Anthony, the 5th generation winemaker.

Better still it is possible to enjoy the ‘underrated Zin’ for under a tenner – now that is worth licking your lips for.
