A Strange Drug Indeed…

Flicks / 29th June, 2014

TulipFever_amputee3Away for the weekend, and as we arrived at a London hotel we noted a cavalcade of vehicles and a galley of actors in costume sitting on the pavement smoking and drinking, waiting to be called to set.

Luckily enough a kind hearted steward allowed us access to view more closely the chosen location, a hidden courtyard of Smithfield Almshouses for a new film entitled, Tulip Fever adapted from a cult novel by Deborah Moggach.  The film follows the life of Cornelis Sandvoort,  (Christoph Waltz,) a man who has made his fortune on the tulip boom of the early  17th century and his alluring wife, Sophia (Alicia Vikander) and her ‘interest’ in a young artist (Dane DeHaan) who is chosen to paint her portrait.

How strange indeed, that I should have written about this phenomenon only a few months earlier and it is now set to be a period film also starring  Judi Dench.  We met a couple of the cast, the most amusing was the veteran amputee who looked very convincing.

moviesRather sadly the set was broken down overnight and all evidence was gone as if it had never appeared “leaving not a rack behind.”

However, I look forward to going to the cinema next year to view the outcome.

PS. And it also proved to be a Dutch omen for the orange men as they came back against the Mexicans in a thrilling last 16 World Cup match.
