Reflektor Kicks On…

Fanfare / 29th June, 2014

arcade fire-2Just a note to say, what a show stopping performance on Friday night by Arcade Fire at Glastonbury. A brilliant set, combined with outlandish costumes and papier mâché  heads of their own persona was a very clever and fitting finale.

A Quixotic Masterpiece

Arcade Fire – Reflektor.

Released late last year this double album is a gem – a throwback to in time to concept albums and a desire to emulate ‘rock-art’ rather than ‘sound-bite rock’.
The production is multi-layered – a tangled weave of intense sounds and harmonies that clash and resonant and then capture your imagination and weave a spell.

Reflektor album coverThe density is overwhelming so it pays to play it again and again – repetition only seals the confirmation of a truly remarkable production – when so much of what we hear is disposable art or covers of covers this is such a refresher for the spirits.

For a taster check out Normal Person or It’s Never Over or better still buy the old format, a CD and you get a set of lyrics to drool over while listening (I suggest) in semi-darkness as the Canadians charge on.
