Roxy Music Blaze Away – 50 Years On and Counting

Fanfare / 14th October, 2022

A welcome day away from the rock face. Forte drove to London and we shot across on the tube to Royal Academy of Music – on Marleybone Road, knock out art deco interiors. Sadly miss first soloist event but watched ensemble deliver with aplomb Tippett’s ‘Fantasia Concertante on theme of Corelli’ in the Duke’s Hall – a magical setting. On to our favourite (and only ) Lebanese restaurant, The Aline in Maddox Street. Dining helped by ace white Domiane des Tourelles, predominately Viognier based wine.

Then we moved onto the clipper taxi, swept along the meandering river from Embankment to North Greenwich. sharing our ride as the dark clouds gathered and sunset streaked the sky with tourists and a local lady from Greenwich ( who had been to the Aquarium). O2 was buzzing & heaving we managed to garner a drink at a sports bar before going indoors – super seats close to the stage in 112 block. A 20 track set packed with the early years was then delivered – “Out Of The Blue “ and “ If There Is Something” stood out for me followed by the electric oboe funeral-like soliloquy on Tara. The old team all present and correct and sartorially dressed, Andy Mackay on Sax and Oboe, Phil Manzanera with snappy snazzy jacket on guitar and and Paul Thompson on drums ( no Eno on keyboards) backed by a host of others including number of regulars which included Australian Saxophonist Jorja Chalmers – who always delivers

And good to know even at the grand old age of 77 Bryan Ferry can still croon with the best of them ……………..

He and his fellow band mates were way ahead of their time with musical content and arrangements

Growing potatoes by the score ,,,,,,
