For Those About to Rock…
Big numbers turned out last night at Wembley on a very hot evening – London was baking with 3O°C + temperatures to watch the greatest Australian rock band ever.
ACDC stood up to be counted – a blaze of sound triumphed their arrival on stage – the lyrics sung by Brian Johnson ( flat cap fame ) were not exactly clear but the audience had no issues as they know these gems by heart.
- Whole Lotta Rose
- Highway to Hell
- TNT
- Back in Black
The list goes on but some leading pearls not covered like Rock ‘n’ Roll aint Noise Pollution, The Girls got Rhythm, Touch too Much to name a few.
But the magic is still there, built around the performance and it is a truly an amazing solo performance by Angus Young dressed in a red velour boy scout outfit complete with cap and tie and like a super stripper in the final act all that is left are the shorts and the instrument of torture in his hands. He tore through the set, his fretwork pillaging all before – with his hot to trot antics on one leg on constant display at 60 years on he is staggering. And of course there is Let there be Rock which is still his true signature piece of guitar genius combined with the finale for Those about to Rock with the gun salute firing off, it all takes some beating.
I was there the last time they came to London Town at the O2 in 2009 and the line up has changed as his brother and founding member Malcolm is unwell, rumours are that he has alzheimer’s and the drummer Phil Rudd has legal issues on his mind, charged with making a death threat and drugs possession, but their replacements Stevie Young, (Malcom’s nephew on bass) and Chris Slade on drums all performed admirably and with passion.
The set was big but what was a sight for sore eyes as darkness descended were the clusters of red horns around that stadium the flicked and glowed their declaration of absolute adoration.
