Henry V – Inspirational Leadership

Olivermythodrama

Hell this is an overworked term, ‘Leadership’, but having been fortunate enough to attend an inspirational delivery on this art form by Phyllida Hancock I was left in no doubt about the powers again of an instructor and torch bearer to illuminate pathways that are sometimes hidden or obscured.

The inspiration she drew on was Shakespeare’s Henry V using the King’s journey, vision and words, written more than 400 years ago to drive home key messages –  her background as a thespian made for a really powerful performance.

The Company Phyllida represents is Olivier Mythodrama set up by Richard Olivier – son of the famous actor. He began developing Mythodrama as a leadership development methodology in 1997 whilst at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in London.  Certainly worth attending an event if you ever get the chance.

“Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more; inspirational-leadership-book cover
Or close the wall up with our English dead!
In peace there’s nothing so becomes a man
As modest stillness and humility:
But when the blast of war blows in our ears,
Then imitate the action of the tiger;
Stiffen the sinews, summon up the blood,
Disguise fair nature with hard-favoured rage;
Then lend the eye a terrible aspect. “

Henry V (Act 3.1.1)
