The Commitments
(Palace Theatre) – London
This fabulous film (1991) based on a Roddy Doyle novel and directed to wide acclaim by Alan Parker returns for the first time as a musical to the West End and what a knock out production it is. The backdrop is Dublin and the story line is simply to return American soul to the Irish natives. It grabs the attention from opening sequence and moves apace with inventive sets excellent musical choreography and of course vocal might – an absolute must have.
Mustang Sally, Try a Little Tenderness & Nowhere to Run stand out.The crowd was in raptures at the end with mass standing for the encore.
