Permission To Take A Bow…

Fanfare / 7th March, 2025

Christopher Hawkins stands aloft, a mercurial figure full of energy, with showcase charisma, fully engaged with the crowd and still has a soprano capable voice – apparently he can span a five octave range! Like a Freddy Mercury meme he struts in extravagant dress and plays out theatrical moves which normally would not work with a metal band, but it delivers and he sets the bar high with evident guitar prowess, even finishing his finale with a set of well known sonic sound bites combined with a pantomime delivery.

We had a fun evening with old and new songs. Stand outs were the old masters … I Believe In aA Thing Called Love and Love Is Only A Feeling

Supported by his brother, Dan on lead, quietly playing the main riffs and a Jeff Lynne Elo fuzzy haired look alike, Frankie Poullain on bass with Rufus ‘Tiger’ Taylor on drums (son of Roger Taylor -Queen) they make a good team. However, I did come away wondering if Hawkins talent had not been dissipated on sex, drugs and a too niched glam rock and roll act would his  career and musical development progressed along a more ‘A’ star path.
