The Inkerman…
a Hidden Treasure
The Inkerman in Ipswich is certainly an alternative venue straddling the double roundabout at Norwich Road and Chevalier Street. It was empty on Thursday lunchtime when we ventured in. An ‘L ‘shaped room with the bar as the central feature – but cold with all the external rear doors open !
Peggy took our order – drinks and a choice of very plain fayre was offered “a burger, hot dog, pizza or hot potato” When the burgers came they had not seen garnish of any variety and a bap wrapper that had been give a new life, fresh from the freezer !
So is there any is the upside?
It must be its sheer uniqueness.
Clean if frugal. A pool table, wall mounted TV’s (not running when we were there) a fantastic jukebox and as a special feature a boxing machine which would normally only be seen at an old style fairground. We wondered if this is typical of the type of customer that frequents The Inkerman, as according to legend this place heaves after work!
The Juke box is free Wednesday’s, Thursday’s and Friday lunchtimes and Peggy was letting the 50’s play on, so unable to Q jump I punched in my choice & left her with an afternoon feature of Cozy Powell’s solo drum piece “Dance with the Devil”
Good luck to you Peggy ………
