Life on Mars – RIP
I woke to the news on Radio 5 just before 7am that David Bowie had died.
Difficult to believe the news – his music was always around us even though he preferred the quiet life and privacy of Switzerland.
I grew up with a close friend and namesake who bought any Bowie material that was published – and I remember swaying to and fro to Life on Mars at our garage party holding tightly to a female form. That song still turns me over.
Later, I was fortunate enough to see him live in London Docklands ripping through his greatest hits on the Sound & Vision Tour. I remember him standing between the legs of giant portrait of himself which seemed perfectly natural !
Will miss you Aladdin Sane – “Battle cries & champagne just in time for sunrise” – part of my youth was just wiped away on Monday.
