Where can you stay in the Metropolis…

At an affordable price with some chic styling?

photo 7Why not try one of the new wave of ‘cube hotels’ that accentuate the better aspects of ‘student style’ accommodation but with a few extras for the urban hotel market –  a difficult pitch – as they must be clean, hygienic and appealing – and most importantly in the right location – this is the ultimate conundrum which sorts ‘the men from the boys’.

So is the answer Qbic?

Possibly – as this chain has all of the above – but with the emphasis very much on self service. The one I stayed in was very close to Aldgate East tube, just outside the congestion zone, but within easy reach of the artistic and cafe culture of Shoreditch & the East End, but well placed to access London’s inner sanctum.

photo 6Rooms can be windowless, but fair sized with another inner cube that makes up the essentials – bed, shower & wc facilities. The ‘lie down area’ is very comfy – a natural organic wool mattress but this seems incongruous with the modular plastic bathroom which feels flimsy and gets messy very quickly.

The “Do Not Disturb”  is a hanging bear which is different… and breakfast is set in a quirky Scandinavian style setting – which I loved. Car parking as well if needed, so some really good points – but the real plus is the location and in this case the offering of Japanese Sushi cuisine across the square.

Overall a good call.
