Mike & The Mechanics Motor On

Fanfare / 15th March, 2025

Mike Rutherford sat on high chair all night as he came on and off the stage with crutch for support – apparently a hip injury. No matter as has always been quietly unassuming on stage. So when we came to I Can’t Dance, I knew he was not going to take part with the slow beat walk. No bother, the guitar fluency was exemplary and with a cast of great players, we were royally entertained.

Both singers were impeccable Andrew Roachford – with dynamite keyboards, black sunglass created a superstitious Steve Wonder feel and his rendition of his hit Cuddly Toy was sensational while Tim Howar, a local boy who was married to Ruthie Henshall and has west end musicals written all over his CV, was a worthy counterpart serving classics like Over My Shoulder. Nic Collins ( Phil Collins son) played the drums was a firm nod to the continuity with Genesis, Anthony Drennan calmly but with verve carried forth the bass, while Luke Juby a super talented multi instrumentalist on the night focused mainly on keyboards

The Living Years was truly nostalgic.
