The Ballet Entertains but the
Ice Cream is to Die for…

Front Row / 30th January, 2014

I took my daughter to see Le Corsaire, at the Coliseum a rarely seen ballet with a storyline about swashbuckling Ottoman pirates, slaves girls and Turkish sultans  – all beautifully choreographed with wonderful costumes and very clever scenery effects, especially the end sequence where multiple screens created an enthralling spectacle of stormy seas and shipwreck.

However, my daughter had just one key objective to seek out the ice cream seller! Within a few moments she held in her hands a tub of joy – I was offered a taster and a wonderful surprise tickled over my palate – I quickly realised that on this occasion I was missing out ! With my own pot of mango sorbet in hand, we both sat quietly, ‘in heaven’ in our seats waiting expectantly for the Second Act.

flavour_cinnamonSo who makes these marvellous ices creams? Criterion Ices are based in East Anglia, at Thurston, near Bury St Edmunds a family business for over 80 years. With a small team they brand a small selection of their wares for the ENO, but most importantly, after further investigation, I discovered there are a bevy of ice beauties waiting to be ‘tried and tested’ including Brown Bread, Cinnamon & Honey, Vintage Marmalade, & Marsala Rum & Raisin all made with fresh local cream and with no artificial flavours or colorants added.

I am already looking forward to Summer days…
